Indication. Flibanserin is a prescription medicine used to treat acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women. It is not for treating HSDD in women who have gone through menopause, in men, or in children, and it is not for improving sexual performance. Only a licensed healthcare provider can determine whether it is appropriate for you.

⚠ Most important warning

Alcohol and flibanserin do not mix.

Drinking alcohol close to the time you take flibanserin can cause severe low blood pressure (hypotension) and fainting (syncope). Talk with your provider about your alcohol use and follow their guidance precisely. If you feel lightheaded or faint, lie down right away and seek medical help.

Interactions to know

CNS depressants such as benzodiazepines, opioids and sleep aids can add to sleepiness and increase the risk of low blood pressure.
CYP3A4 inhibitors, including certain antifungals, some antibiotics and grapefruit juice, can raise flibanserin levels and the risk of hypotension and fainting. Strong inhibitors should not be combined.
Tell your provider about all medicines, supplements and substances you take, and about any liver problems.

Dosing and daily life

Take once daily at bedtime to reduce the risk of dizziness, low blood pressure and sleepiness. Never take more than one dose in 24 hours.
Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how flibanserin affects you, and for at least 6 hours after your dose.
It may take several weeks to notice an effect, and some people notice none. Your provider reassesses at about 8 weeks.
